FLYTELOG works great on mobile devices! You can install it as a Progressive Web App (PWA) on both iOS and Android devices, giving you app-like access to your flight logbook. This guide will show you how to install FLYTELOG on your device.

Installing on iOS (iPhone and iPad)

Step 1: Open FLYTELOG in Safari

On your iPhone or iPad, open the Safari browser and navigate to app.flytelog.io. Log in to your account if needed.

Important: You must use Safari - the "Add to Home Screen" feature is not available in other browsers on iOS.

Step 2: Tap the Share Button

Once FLYTELOG is loaded in Safari:

  1. Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen (the square with an arrow pointing up)
  2. This will open the iOS share menu

Step 3: Select "Add to Home Screen"

In the share menu:

  1. Scroll down in the share menu if needed
  2. Look for "Add to Home Screen" option
  3. Tap on it

Note: If you don't see "Add to Home Screen", scroll down in the share menu - it may be in the second row of options.

Step 4: Customize the App Name (Optional)

You'll see a screen with the FLYTELOG icon and name:

  1. The app name will default to "FLYTELOG"
  2. You can edit the name if you want (optional)
  3. The icon will be the FLYTELOG logo

Step 5: Add to Home Screen

Tap the "Add" button in the top right corner. FLYTELOG will now be added to your home screen.

Step 6: Launch FLYTELOG

You'll find the FLYTELOG app icon on your home screen. Tap it to launch FLYTELOG just like any other app!

Installing on Android

Step 1: Open FLYTELOG in Chrome

On your Android device, open the Chrome browser and navigate to app.flytelog.io. Log in to your account if needed.

Note: Chrome is recommended, but other Chromium-based browsers should also work.

Step 2: Access the Menu

Once FLYTELOG is loaded:

  1. Tap the three-dot menu icon (⋮) in the top right corner of Chrome
  2. This will open the browser menu

Step 3: Select "Add to Home Screen" or "Install App"

In the menu, look for one of these options:

  • "Add to Home screen"
  • "Install app"
  • "Install FLYTELOG"

Tap on the appropriate option.

Step 4: Confirm Installation

You may see a confirmation dialog:

  1. Review the app name and icon
  2. Tap "Install" or "Add" to confirm

Step 5: Launch FLYTELOG

After installation, you'll see the FLYTELOG app icon in your app drawer and on your home screen. Tap it to launch FLYTELOG!

Alternative: Chrome's Install Prompt

On Android, Chrome may automatically show an install prompt:

  1. When you visit FLYTELOG, you may see a banner at the bottom saying "Install FLYTELOG" or "Add FLYTELOG to Home screen"
  2. Simply tap "Install" or "Add" on this banner
  3. The app will be installed immediately

Using the Installed App

Once installed, FLYTELOG works like a native app:

  • Full-screen experience: Opens without browser bars
  • Offline support: Some features work offline (if configured)
  • Fast access: Quick launch from your home screen
  • App-like feel: Smooth, native-feeling interface
  • Notifications: Can receive push notifications (if enabled)

Updating the App

FLYTELOG updates automatically:

  • When you open the app, it loads the latest version from the server
  • No need to update through app stores
  • You always have the latest features and fixes

Tip: If you notice the app seems outdated, try closing and reopening it, or clear your browser cache.

Removing the App

If you want to remove FLYTELOG from your home screen:

On iOS:

  1. Long-press the FLYTELOG icon on your home screen
  2. Tap the "X" or select "Remove App"
  3. Confirm removal

On Android:

  1. Long-press the FLYTELOG icon
  2. Drag it to "Uninstall" or tap the uninstall option
  3. Confirm removal

Note: Removing the app from your home screen doesn't delete your account or data - you can always reinstall it later.

Troubleshooting

iOS: "Add to Home Screen" Not Appearing

  • Ensure you're using Safari (not Chrome or other browsers)
  • Make sure you're logged into FLYTELOG
  • Try scrolling down in the share menu
  • Refresh the page and try again
  • Check that your iOS version supports PWAs (iOS 11.3+)

Android: Install Option Not Showing

  • Ensure you're using Chrome or a Chromium-based browser
  • Make sure you're logged into FLYTELOG
  • Check that your Android version supports PWAs (Android 5.0+)
  • Try clearing Chrome's cache and cookies
  • Look for the install banner that may appear automatically

App Not Working After Installation

  • Ensure you have an internet connection
  • Try closing and reopening the app
  • Clear your browser cache
  • Uninstall and reinstall the app
  • Check that FLYTELOG is accessible in your regular browser

Icon Not Appearing

  • Check your home screen - it may be on a different page
  • Look in your app drawer (Android)
  • Try searching for "FLYTELOG" on your device
  • Reinstall if the icon is missing
