Configuring your preferences in FLYTELOG allows you to customize your experience, set default values for flight entry, and configure display formats. This guide will walk you through all available settings.

Step 1: Access Settings

To open your settings:

  1. Log in to your FLYTELOG account
  2. Click on your profile icon or name (usually in the top right corner)
  3. Select Settings or Preferences from the dropdown menu
  4. Alternatively, look for a Settings link in the main navigation

Step 2: Configure Personal Information

Update your personal details:

  1. Find the Personal Information or Profile section
  2. Update your name if needed
  3. Verify or update your email address
  4. Add or update your phone number (optional)
  5. Click Save to apply changes

Important: Keep your email address current, as it's used for account verification, password resets, and notifications.

Step 3: Change Your Password (Optional)

If you want to update your password:

  1. Find the Change Password section
  2. Enter your current password
  3. Enter your new password
  4. Confirm your new password
  5. Click Change Password

Note: If you logged in using Google OAuth, password changes are not available.

Step 4: Configure Flight Defaults

Set default values that will be pre-filled when creating new flights:

  1. Find the Flight Defaults section
  2. Set Default Flight Type: Choose VFR, IFR, or VFR/IFR
  3. Set Default Conditions: Choose Day, Night, or Day/Night
  4. Enter Home Base Airfield: Your home airport ICAO code (e.g., EGLL, KLAX)
  5. Select Default Aircraft: Choose an aircraft to pre-select when creating flights

Note: These are just defaults - you can always change them when creating individual flights.

Step 5: Configure Display Preferences

Customize how information is displayed:

  1. Find the Display Preferences section
  2. Set Time Display Format:
    • Decimal: 1.5 hours
    • Hours:Minutes: 1:30
  3. Set Date Format:
    • DD/MM/YYYY: 25/12/2024
    • MM/DD/YYYY: 12/25/2024
    • DD MMM YYYY: 25 Dec 2024

Step 6: Set Regulatory Authority

Select the regulatory authority you follow:

  1. Find the Regulatory Authority section
  2. Select from:
    • EASA: European Union
    • FAA: United States
    • UK CAA: United Kingdom
  3. This setting helps ensure your logbook meets the requirements of your authority

Step 7: Review and Save All Changes

After making all your preference changes:

  1. Review all settings to ensure they're correct
  2. Click Save or Save All at the bottom of the page
  3. Wait for confirmation that settings were saved
  4. Test your changes to ensure they're working as expected

Flight Defaults

Default values help speed up flight entry:

  • Pre-selected flight type and conditions save time
  • Home base airfield automatically fills departure/arrival fields
  • Default aircraft is pre-selected when creating flights

Display Preferences

These settings affect how data is shown throughout the app:

  • Time format applies to all flight time displays
  • Date format applies to all date displays in tables and lists

Regulatory Authority

Selecting your regulatory authority helps ensure:

  • Your logbook format meets authority requirements
  • Currency calculations follow the correct rules
  • Exports are formatted appropriately

Best Practices

  • Set up early: Configure preferences when you first create your account
  • Review periodically: Check settings occasionally to ensure they're still correct
  • Keep email current: Always keep your email address up to date
  • Set useful defaults: Configure flight defaults that match your typical flying patterns
  • Choose appropriate formats: Select time and date formats that you're comfortable with
  • Secure your account: Use a strong password and change it regularly

Mobile Settings

Settings are synchronized across devices:

  • Changes made on desktop apply to mobile
  • Changes made on mobile apply to desktop
  • All your preferences are stored in the cloud

Troubleshooting

Settings Not Saving

  • Check your internet connection
  • Ensure you clicked "Save"
  • Try refreshing the page
  • Clear your browser cache
  • Try a different browser

Settings Not Applying

  • Ensure you clicked "Save Settings" at the bottom of the page
  • Refresh the page after saving
  • Check that your changes were actually saved
